Two events on the South Strand in the next seven days offer fun for all and opportunities for college students and veterans.
A Pasta Sauce Contest will benefit the scholarship fund of the Grand Strand Opera Workshop.
A dinner for veterans will be hosted by Barry Goldwater, Jr. and the South Strand Republican Club.
Fourth Annual Pasta Sauce Contest
The 4th annual tomato sauce contest sponsored by the Grand Strand Opera Workshop benefiting a student(s) from Coastal Carolina University will be held this year on Sunday November 8 from 3 PM to 6 PM at Angelo’s Steak and Pasta Restaurant 2311 South Kings Hwy (Hwy 17 Bus. S) Myrtle Beach Tel 843-626-2800.
The proceeds (85%) from the contest will benefit the Carleton-Talbert scholarship fund—the sauce can be either Marinara (red) or White (Alfredo)..
This year’s contest chairman is Fred Nesta.
If you cannot enter the sauce contest, PLEASE come and enjoy an Early Bird menu on all entrees, at Angelo’s.
The restaurant is donating 25% of all the proceeds i.e. meals, beverages, wines etc to the scholarship fund..
There will be five Judges, who will base their scores on: tastes, smell, aroma, blends, sauce flavors, and the authenticity of the preparation.
This year there will be: a First place overall winner; Second place a white and red sauce winner; and Third place a white and red sauce winner. Each winner receives a handsome gift.. the awards will be on display at Angelo’s during the contest. The winners will be announced at 6:30 PM on Sunday 11-8-15..

Veterans Dinner With Barry Goldwater, Jr. and South Strand Republican Club
The South Strand Republican Club (SSRC) will be hosting a dinner meeting on Wednesday November 11th (Veterans Day) 6 PM at Angelo’s Steak and Pasta Restaurant 2311 South Kings Hwy (Hwy 17 Bus S ) tel 843-626-2800; the guest speaker will be former US Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr. the son of the late US Senator Barry Goldwater the Father of Conservatism.
Veterans will receive a FREE dinner; compliments of Mr. Goldwater, and the SSRC.. The cost of the dinner including tax and tip is $8.00…The dinner menu will be a choice of: Pork Chop; eggplant parmesan; chicken parmesan; or 6oz sirloin steak; garlic rolls, salad, coffee, tea or soft drink
