The Horry County League of Women Voters is holding a Candidates Forum for Horry County Council District 6 special election candidates.
The forum is scheduled for tomorrow – Tuesday May 19, 2015 at the Socastee Library from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their views on issues.
Six candidates have filed for the District 6 Republican nomination. They are Ric Coates, Cam Crawford, Blaine Garren, Kirk Hanna, Cary Rowell and Chris Stephens. No Democratic candidates have filed.
According to information from the League of Women Voters, four of the candidates, Garren, Hanna, Rowell and Stephens, are expected to participate in the forum. Candidates Crawford and Coates will not be in attendance but will send representatives from their respective campaigns to the forums.
The format will give each candidate two minutes for an opening statement. Candidates will then participate in a question and answer session on issue questions submitted by those in attendance at the forum. Each candidate will also get a two minute closing statement.
Representatives of candidates who are not attending will be allowed to make a two minute statement for their candidate, but will not be allowed to participate in the question and answer portion of the forum.
Linda Bianca of the Horry County League of Women Voters will be the moderator of the Candidates Forum.
Candidate literature will be available as well as the opportunity to meet personally with candidates before and after the forum.
The special Republican primary election for Horry County Council District 6 will be held June 16, 2015 with a runoff election two weeks later for the top two vote getters if no candidate exceeds 50% of the primary vote.
The special general election will be held August 4, 2015.
