Rodney Berry’s Vision for Senate District 30

By Paul Gable

Republican candidate Rodney Berry will square off against five-term incumbent Democrat Kent Willians in tomorrow’s election for SC Senate District 30.

Berry brings a unique set of qualifications and experience to the race which could help pull District 30 up from its current economic problems. He is a past mayor of Marion, a former Administrator of Dillon County government, has 10 years of experience working with Congress and is currently a contractor for economic development for Dillon County.

“For the past 20 years the two main counties in this Senate District have ranked in the top 5 poorest counties in South Carolina,” Berry said. “We can’t keep accepting losing and finishing at the bottom.”

Berry was a principal negotiator in the economic development initiative that resulted in the Dillon Inland Port which has provided over 2,000 new jobs to date. He plans to use his experience in economic development initiatives to benefit the entirety of District 30.

“Economic development turns the page to a brighter future,” Berry said. “For too long Senate District 30 has trailed neighboring districts in opportunities for our citizens. I want to change that and move our district forward.”

If elected, Berry would have one other advantage to help push his plans for district improvement. Berry would be a member of the majority party caucus in the General Assembly. In all democracies, it is the number of votes that matter to pass issues and initiatives to become law.

Even as an incoming freshman senator, Berry would have access to a large majority of the 46 votes in the Senate through his party affiliation alone. The Senate has had a Republican majority since 1994. Joining that majority with a Republican senator can’t help but improve the prospects for District 30.

“I have the work ethic, knowledge and a plan to uplift us. It’s our time to start a new winning team for District 30,” Berry concluded.
